Studios on Eosinophils: Bone Marrow Eosinophilia



Abstract
17 bone marrow eosinophilia cases which showed more than 10% of eosinophils in
differential counts were analysed according to etiology.
Mean values of eosinophils in differential count were 16.1¡¾7.1% in bone marrow and
16.0¡¾7.0% in Peripheral blood.
Other hematological values were not so significant except a moderate anemia (mean
Hb. values, 9.8gm./dl.). Clinical diagnosis and/or bone marrow findings were portal
hypertension with splenomegaly in f cases (41%), lymphoma in 2 casts, leukemia in 2
cases, paragonimiasis in 1 case, hook worm in 1 case, drug allergy in 1 case, typhoid
fever in 1 case and unknown in 2 cases.
Degrees of eosinophilia in differential count were 10-l9% in 13 cases, 20-29% in 1
case, 30-39% in 2 cases and more than 40% in 1 case.
In cases of portal hypertension with splenomegaly, there were liver cirrhosis in 4
cases, hypersplenism in 3 cases and one of then showed eosinophilia after splenectomy.
Leukemia and Lymphoma casts were one chronic myelocytic leukemia, one acute
myelocytic leukemia, onelymphocytictrFeandonemigcdnlltypercspectively.
